Patrick McKenna
Furniture Designer
Patrick McKenna has a keen interest in design and all things Japanese when growing up in Chicago. He studied Japanese Language and Arts in college and earned a bachelor of arts from Manhattan College in New York. He spent 2 years exploring Japanese culture and arts while working to build 26 timber homes in earthquake torn Kobe. He is self taught in furniture making. The path is the goal as one project led to the next, as achieving the best furniture and joinery design kept driving his passion. Since 2001 he has built a team of outstanding master craftsman and joiners.
Bespoke Furniture Made in Ireland Wabi-Sabi Ltd. design, manufacture and fit to order internal joinery including bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchens, paneling, screens and stairs. We use quality timeless materials and contemporary joinery detailing that provides coherent look and feel within the home. We take a holistic view of the house design working with client and architect to present furniture that integrates into the house. Wabi Sabi has come to mean simple, un-materialistic, humble by choice, and in tune with nature. It connotes a natural progression, a patina that extinguishes the gloss.
Wabi-sabi is an ancient design concept of paring back to the simple essentials. It is understated and modest, a kind of quiet, undeclared beauty that waits patiently to be discovered. We inform architect and client on joinery details, material sourcing, composition of materials and finishes to achieve the desired look and functionality of the furniture.
